Methods And Reasons For Historical Aerial Photos

Pictures taken from the air are aerial photos.  These kinds of photos are used for many reasons.  Some of these reasons include surveying land/location, weather, real estate, special events, movies and for pure entertainment.  Historical aerial photos are photos of landmarks and historic sites and monuments.  These kinds of photos are all over the Internet and are acquired in a variety of ways.

BAP – Balloon aerial photography makes use of cameras placed with balloons.  The balloons are not as limited by the weather like kites, but high winds can cause issues with this method.

KAP – Kite aerial photography makes use of kite flying to take unique sky pictures.  The cameras are placed on the kites and the shots can be amazing.  It is a cost effective way to get aerial photos, but the wind and weather can be a help or a deterrent.

HAP – Helicopter aerial photography is just that.  It is when shots are taken from a helicopter.  This is a more expensive way to obtain aerial shots, but is commonly used by the military to get special shots dealing with military maneuvers or strategic planning.  Historical aerial photos are typically taken by businesses and some private organizations for historic reasons.

RCAP – Radio controlled aerial photography is where a radio controlled helicopter or other radio controlled device capable of flying is used to get shots from the sky for various reasons.  As a matter of fact, there have been some companies that have developed this art all over the nation.  They use the latest SLR technology to get high quality aerial shots.

Any of the above methods can be used to get special aerial pictures by amateurs or professionals.  Historical aerial photos, however, typically require a professional photographer or at least a very experienced amateur photographer to get the view right.  Some historic sites that have aerial views available for viewing include such shots as photos from natural disasters like hurricane Katina in New Orleans and photos of stadiums in various states like the Alamo in Texas.

Depending on the aerial shots taken, they can be quite breathtaking when they are done the right way. There are some cases where historical aerial photos are used only for government, military or NASA.  Whether you are interested in being an aerial photographer or simply seeing some great aerial photography, there is plenty of information online on the subject.
